“Spencer, listen, I didn’t mean for-” Rossi tries again, looking more and more harrowed as the seconds drag by, but this time Spencer just holds up a hand and Rossi falls silent.
“Leave it. There’s nothing you can do, or say, to change what you did.” Spencer’s voice is strangely monotone all of a sudden, almost defeated if not for the blazing fire still showing in his eyes and the way he’s holding himself, still poised for a fight. Rossi can only hope it’s for this verbal sparring match, not a physical one. Spencer will win with words easily, and Rossi is happy to let him.
God, he really has screwed this up.
