Summary
Song Lan imagines Xue Yang’s body as a bruised peach, collapsing in on itself as it’s consumed by rot.
He’s not as confident as Xiao Xingchen that they can reverse the process. Maybe it would be better to leave him here, to smother the fire and let the cold preserve him. Maybe it would be easier to take Fuxue and finish the job they started.But Song Lan has never valued what is easy.
When an untimely blizzard hits after their confrontation at Chang manor Song Lan and Xiao Xingchen’s only way to save a gravely injured Xue Yang is to hole up amidst the massacre. Xiao Xingchen suspects that there is something demonic afoot, but Song Lan isn’t convinced.
As Xue Yang’s health declines, Xiao Xingchen does his best to tend to him and Song Lan does his best to ignore the twin feelings of jealousy and desire that Xue Yang inspires within him.
