There is no world in which Jimmy shows up on Joel’s doorstep at two in the morning with genuine fear in his eyes and Joel calls him irrational or tells him to just go back home. There is a world where Joel pulls Jimmy into his arms and doesn’t let go for the rest of the night, there has to be one. This isn’t that world, though.

In the time before a battle begins, Jimmy often finds himself wondering how the world made it to this point. His eyes scan across the evening skyline, spectral wings ruffling behind him as his mind wanders into the cacophony of feelings and half formed ideas that aren’t his own.
The lights of the skyscrapers flicker off, people making their way home as night begins to drape over the city. A cold wind brushes through his hair… a snowstorm’s on the way, he notes absentmindedly.
Jimmy’s eyes drift over to the hospital; ticking ever on in the attempt to discover why half the world’s population had manifested superpowers last month. Personally, he thinks their research’ll be fruitless. With no consistency between what people present with… well.

Probably because the guy is always wearing t-shirts of bands Jimmy has never heard of. It’s a real mood killer for his daydreams, because he has yet to come up with a better excuse to chat him up. The guy looks up from the crisps and Jimmy quickly fixes his eyes back on his comic book. Close one.

When the avians around him, his heart will do these funny little swoops.
He’s always catching himself looking Jimmy’s way whenever the avian is not looking at him.
When he’s on a server with Jimmy, he tries not to think too much about the little crush, trying (struggling) to accept that Jimmy would never love him back.
But when he’s not on a server with Jimmy, he catches himself day dreaming about the avian, running his hands through the avian’s wings, making him coffee and blueberry pancakes (his favorite) for breakfast, waking up to those warm brown eyes and fluffy yellow hair every morning.
Joel sighs.
He pulls himself out of bed, no point in daydreaming about the impossible when there are things to be built.
After all, a city won't build itself.
