Summary
Lance is a rebel leader against the Galra Empire. He was captured when he was five and kept as a prisoner for five years. Lance had been on his own, at the small age of 10, since escaping and he gathered friends, slowly building up the Shadow Archers, a force that is well known throughout the Galaxy, though no one knows their faces. Then, one day, Voltron asks to have a meeting with the leader of the Shadow Archers for a possible alliance.
When Shiro, Keith, Pidge, and Hunk find the Yellow on Earth and get sent into space, they did not expect to meet aliens of an extinct race or be chosen to be the Paladins of Voltron. They've been doing fine on their own, but they still needed to find the Blue Paladin. Princess Allura of planet Altea gets word of the Shadow Archers, a rebel force that had come up while she was in her 10,000-year sleep. Wanting to form an alliance with them, she contacts the rebel group and requests that the Paladins of Voltron meet with their leader.

Lance had been friends with them once. He had basically created the whole group, introducing Pidge to Hunk and then Shiro and Keith to them and almost making them hang out by obligation. Why did he stop calling? Why did he left every group chat? Why didn’t he reach out?

Lance's senior year was supposed to be easy. Yeah, taking four AP/Honors classes on top of doing swimming and marching band after school was going to suck a little bit and so was not having his sister/best friend Veronica there to help, but it was manageable.
Well, as if high school wasn't hard enough to survive just on its own, the five love letters Lance never intended to send are suddenly missing and turn up in the hands of the very people Lance never intended to send them to, Ryan (Veronica's ex-boyfriend) and Keith (Lance's ex-best-friend's ex-boyfriend) included.
In a moment of desperation, Keith and Lance agree to fake-date each other. Lance agrees so he can avoid talking to Ryan (and, more importantly, Veronica) about the letters. Keith agrees so he can win back Lotor (Lance's aforementioned ex-best-friend). Neither of them are telling the truth.
Keeping up? Good, cause Lance sure as hell isn't.

Lance McClain doesn't believe in true love, especially when you're fighting in a war against an evil alien Emperor. He and Keith broke up on mutual grounds when Keith is offered a place with the blade. When Lance's bond with the red lion strengthens he sees Alfor, the previous Paladin. Alfor ends up seeing much of himself in him and decides to tell him the story of how he met the love of his life.
Meanwhile, Lance and Keith maintain their friendship and try to help each other out in dating someone new. But as they both started dating and time passes Keith soon realizes that he has fallen for Lance.
It only depends now on how Alfor finished his story for Lance to finally decide what he really was looking for.

Lance has been the scape-goat for too long- it's just taking a while for him to realise. When he finally does, he knows it's high and mighty time to pay attention to those that actually matter.
Like the people (aliens?) that genuinely care about him- and the Lions. They're ridiculously sentient and even have physical forms- who knew?Oh, and at some point, an overly grateful elder gives him a slight modification to his DNA- and it kinda turns him half-alien?
And like, Lotor's generals are super chill, the world isn't so bad (as long as he doesn't think too much), and maybe he can enjoy it after all??
