Summary
If Steve is feeling watched, it certainly isn’t by the eyes of God.
He sits in the same spot for weeks after church hours, heavy on his knees until they leave a water color of bruises in various stages and still turns, still cracks his eyes open in the middle of a silent plea for normalcy to check the dark corners around him, always expecting to catch something lurking there. Something foul – fetid with the putrid stench of an eternity's burning flesh, brimstone, crimson irons that stain the icy porous surface on this stone– his sanity –of sacrifice.
There does come a day where that spot is empty. Cold.
Barren of any heavenly company, not that it had ever quite seen any before to begin with.
