I’m not ready to post the next chapter of A Peck on the Cheek, so I thought I’d
post another blooper reel. This is the first version of Scot’s initial visit to the Hellp
Desk. In a lot of ways I like it better than what actually got posted. It’s more
dramatic and the tensions/emotions are a lot bigger, but it doesn’t work in character
terms – can anyone imagine Lily, or any of the emotionally-intelligent people at the
Hellp Desk not getting the hint and backing down immediately when Scot discusses
his discomfort? Or that a hundred thousand years later the spells of despair haven’t
been lifted from the Gate, or at least turned off until an invader appears? Or Scot
successfully laying a hand on as practiced a warrior as Beleth? Or anyone at the Hellp
Desk allowing Scot and Angel to be in contact before Scot knew the score?It just didn’t work. But I really wish it did.

In the course of writing “A Peck on the Cheek,” which has grown from a one-off story into a novel despite my original intentions – dear sweet Mothra do I ever love Sea.Ya.Later’s idea of the afterlife – lots of stuff that reads well has been left on the cutting room floor. Stuff that’s funny, or dramatic, or interesting for one reason or another… Rejected directions for the plot, earlier versions of dramatic moments, stuff that didn’t quite make the emotional or philosophical point I was trying to make, and most of all, stuff that’s not quite in character even if it’s funny or dramatic, and I've been too busy to write for the last week... so here it is.
