  The synthetic sunrise painted Ophelia’s windows in shades of coral and gold. She whined softly—stretching like a cat in the white expanse of her bed, arms reaching for the skylight above. A soft song was chiming through her Affinity Suite as it always did at this hour.
  “Good morn-ing,” She called. To no one in particular, voice bright as polished glass, and just as she did every morning, Ophelia tried to smile.
  The coffee maker chimed its own greeting, dispensing her single daily cup with merciless precision. She thought about adding cream—but settled for the memory instead. Steam rose from the black surface, and Ophelia inhaled. She had never particularly liked the scent.
