Part of a series of scenes involving Erik Destler/The Phantom Of The Opera. During this scene, Erik discovers the power of the church organ through a bittersweet moment of clarity.
Instruments were designed to elicit something in everyone. Erik had never once doubted that. He believed that music had the power and opportunity to pave the way for what humans are supposed to do next in life. To give purpose and meaning and to drive power. Power over purpose, power over desire. Power over the very meaning of life.
'Mankind made cruelty so intimate an experience for Erik, yet with each pipe racing through his body, into his lungs and consuming his heart, Erik had never known this feeling. Was this acceptance? Was it kindness? '
