But Seifer’s shitty attitude made me want to train harder to make something of myself, that’s all I needed to know. I still don’t understand what his weird obsession with me is...
One time when he was being an asshole he called me an “Ice Queen”, but... Something about that made me remember our weird joint training mission with Trabia Garden, to that isolated village in the northern snowfields... I always thought it was a fever dream brought on by hypothermia—a dying woman in a heavy fur cloak reaching out to me, a blinding snowstorm, the harsh sound of the wind—then I woke up fevered in the village inn. Sometimes I still dream of a howling arctic wind... I don’t know if that really happened, or what it means...

Gaius conflicted her like nothing else. On one hand, he had been an enemy for the longest time. On the other, he was supposed to be an ally now, and trusted friends had vouched for him, seen him for the man he was now, or that at the very least how their goals were aligned for the time being. Even as instinct told her he was a potential threat, she also understood better than most that people can change. With his tall stature and wide shoulders it is easy for her to imagine him in his Legatus armor. Even back during their final battle, Gaius was not wholly evil. He did not want wanton destruction. And his defeat spurred him to his current objective of hunting down Ascians.
She wanted to see Gaius in a better light. Even with that belief however, she still felt a small tug at her heart as she remembered all the things he has done both to others and herself. She can’t fully trust Gaius yet, but she wants to. Wants to believe him when she hears the conviction behind his words. She just needs to be assured that he is true because with all of this, she doesn't truly know that much about Gaius either. Time to change that.

A pile of mission reports laid, scattered and unread on Squall's desk and floor, pushed to the side to make more room on his overworked and overworn desk. This, whatever this was, had started hours ago and they were no closer to finishing, several pots of coffee down and a whole bag of chocolates devoured.
Irvine sat on the side of the desk, his tongue caught between his teeth as he regarded his hand and the field, Squall taking another long sip of his coffee. He'd messed up the last pot and burnt it, not that he apparently cared because he drank it nonetheless.
"Shit, I got nothin'." Irvine grumbled as he sat a card for the hell of it, Squall preening as he won this round, their chosen rules not playing in Irvine's favor. "'nother round?"
