Summary
There's a month left before Viktor goes off to the famed Academy in the Capitol, escaping the drudging fate of most people who live in District Twelve. He hopes to change the world with the opportunity he'd earned. Hell, he's even got his acceptance letter taped to the ceiling and a newfound passion for life despite his creeping sickness. There's a rare sort of hope that fills him as he counts down the days before he's able to leave.
A Reaping and a month to go, he's nothing if not hopeful.
Luck isn't in his favor, however, and it's in a matter of a day that he finds himself doomed to die in the death games he's managed to avoid for years.
Thrust into the yearly death games, he finds himself completely and totally alone within the arena, somehow surviving the opening bloodbath and defying the odds. He's only just figuring out to survive when one of the tributes manages to walk right into one of his traps.

Nestled in one of the oldest parts of the Entresol level lies Arc Avenue and, deeper still, the childhood home of one of Zaun’s brightest can be found. The middle apartment of a collapsing three-story building, consisting of only one room but featuring a closet large enough for a child’s mattress and moth-eaten bedsheets— a steal in the Undercity, really— and a wrought-iron candle stand proudly displayed in the window. One of the steaming vents, directly across from the front steps of the apartment building, was the direct cause of many of Viktor’s plentiful ailments.
But he still has a handful of decent memories on Arc Avenue, even if they’re faded and yellowed with time. Braiding bread (it would need last them the entire week or they’d go hungry), lighting candles in the window (someone threw a brick through the window once and it was a miracle they put the fire out before it spread), playing a quiet game where they’d lock the doors and hide (the enforcers favored Arc Avenue).

Follows Viktor from age 15 when he is accepted into Piltover Academy to the end of season 1. Details Viktor's internal thoughts, passions, difficulties, and feelings through the form of personal journal entries. Honestly this fictional man has been haunting my dreams and I wanted to write a fic where I really get in his head. His ambitions, morals, and humanity shift over the course of the show, including his feelings towards Jayce. They don't really get together in the end, so I hope you can handle unrequited love! Viktor is trans and disabled, so a lot of his internal dialogue has to do with his identity as an outsider. He also uses the journal to track his vivid dreams where the Arcane calls out to him. I had a ton of fun writing this and I hope you enjoy!

Viktors life passed in muted colors before he met Jayce. It was not something he realized he was lacking, until he had walked into his life. Moreso, as he walked into his life, to arrest him that was.
Viktor wanted to be viewed for his mind, his intellectual prowess that he had spent years hunched over books for. Nights without sleep in a lab, trying to make a name for himself at innovator competitions, to earn himself a sponsor. After all his hard work, that he did. He earned himself a spot with the head of the council, Heimerdinger. He was grateful, but it was not long until the need for further advancement started to eat away at him. Being an assistant in its own ways was a thankless job, your life revolving around another. He was treated well, he received fair compensation and tools to complete his work, but he was moving something. A spark. A driving force.

After the bomb hits, everything changes. The Machine Herald has been fighting The Defender of Tomorrow for months as the Piltover-Zaun war rages on. Viktor has fully accepted that they are doomed to be on opposite sides in this war, but when his mask comes off during combat, he realizes he may have miscalculated Jayce's motivations.
