Summary
It's 1955, and Caitlyn Kiramman Fabron finds herself on a military base in Hawaii because her husband, a weapons contractor, has accepted a large contract with the United States military.
While there for the duration of her husband's contract, she meets Sergeant Violet "Vi" Vanderson of the U.S. Marines, and the two women strike up a friendship, getting to know one another in the limited time they're afforded between Vi's training and Caitlyn's endless social obligations.
As they grow closer, spending every spare minute together, Vi shows Caitlyn everything she never could have even imagined wanting.
And, when the Vietnam War breaks out and Vi's deployed, Caitlyn learns just what it means to love a soldier.
