Summary
He dissected, catalogued, tested how much life could handle under the knife. His lab partners liked him, liked how they had to do nothing, as laser-focused as he became during those ninety minutes of peace. Bones fell into place, organs arranged themselves in neat places in his mind, shiny and clean and color-coded. The femur is the longest bone in the body. The brain cannot feel pain. When something is wrong, your body is coded to fix it, most of the time.
It's that "most of the time" that gets you though, isn't it?
