That was all he could remember, the pain, the fall, the nothingness...he couldn't see, and couldn't See. It was over.
Then, something changed, he didn't know what. The darkness changed to light, but the pain never stopped. He could hear someone screaming, screaming for help, but he couldn't think of what for. Then he moved. He saw, and felt, the blood oozing from every cut, every pore...from his heart. As he took a breath, he remembered. He remembered everything. He looked at the man, screaming for help, and at the figures approaching. As he passed out, he thought his last words for some time. One way or another. Together. Always together.

If Tim hadn’t said anything, he might not have started noticing.
Noticing things, for example, like Jon slamming a stack of files onto Gregory’s desk and demanding to know why he had ‘delegated’ these notoriously impenetrable documents to Sasha, then asking quite how interested Elias might be to learn of this redistribution of labour. Or noticing things, for example, like Jon glaring daggers into the back of Polly’s neck as she returns Tim’s ‘borrowed’ chair, then laboriously contorting himself beneath it to readjust it to Tim’s settings.
And once he notices these things, he can’t stop noticing.

Aziraphale knows he made the right choice, even if every piece of him is screaming for him to go back to Crowley. Aziraphale knows that this promotion is a chance for him to actually change things for the better, to make a real difference. Even if he has to leave Crowley behind to do it. It hurts but, Aziraphale knows it will all be worth it in the end. Arizaphale knows a lot of things.
Crowley feels a lot of things as he slithers into the Bentley. Most of it hurts too much to think about, and Crowley’s always been good at pushing away the pain. So if you asked Crowley how he’s feeling as he drives away, the only answer he could give you is numb. Numb and… lonely.
It's months later when it all changes, and suddenly, there is a strange man in Heaven, with far too many eyes to be human and blood spilling from a knife wound in his chest, and there is another strange man in the bookshop, who fades in and out with fog and who’s clutching a bloody knife in his hands. What happens, when Aziraphale isn’t the only one in Heaven who Knows a lot of things, and when Crowley has to take care of someone who’s just as Lonely?
