“I don’t even know what I would tell him.” Jisung overestimates the amount that he and Felix actually talk to each other.
“All right. So what you’re looking at is a successful simulation of practical time travel.”
Hyunjin looks at his best friend and waits for the joke, but he just has the same self-assured, satisfied look in his eye. It’s the same look as the time when he invented a way for his cat to explore his backyard without interfering with the wildlife. It weirded Hyunjin out that this is on the exact same level of importance to him. Actually…no. This has to be a joke. Time travel is impossible.

Hyunjin looks out at endless rolling waves and he recalls the first summer he worked at Sunsational. He was sixteen and he let Felix talk him into getting a summer job. Felix desperately wanted to save up to buy the newest edition of a video game series. Hyunjin only agreed to take the job when he learned that Bang Chan worked at the store.
At the time, Felix and Hyunjin were the only ‘out’ gay kids at their school and they were consequently relegated to loser status. Hyunjin had only fantasized about talking to someone as handsome, lovable, and popular as Bang Chan. Hyunjin had seen Chan surfing at the beach several times. He watched in awe as Chan rode waves like he was made for it, like Poseidon molded him from sand and sea glass.
