Summary
Dean, at the end of his rope, performs a ritual to summon Cas from The Empty. He is very Dean about it when he thinks it doesn't work and plans to give up on life. Turns out, the ritual did work! Dean confesses his love to Cas, and they end up cuddling in a field outside that barn where they first met.

Scott was silent for a moment longer and his hand reached into his cloak to clutch onto Avid’s blood red cloak. He made a plea to the open air, voice barely more than a whisper, but he made it nevertheless. What else could he do? Even if hope was such a useless feeling.
“Avid… Is that you?”
OR: for an inexplicable reason, Avid becomes a ghost after his death, meanwhile Scott deals with realising that he is able to grieve, and he doesn't know how to deal with that.

“I dunno, man, I don’t really think of it like that. Time wasn’t like that in the cage. And, especially after Cas took a lot of it, the whole thing feels, you know, apart,” Sam says.
And it’s true. Like his time in the cage is part of a different life, one mostly remembered but only half-felt. Just as distant as his days at Stanford. Just as distant as his days with Ruby. Maybe he’s just too good at extracting the pieces of his history that are painful. Maybe Dean is so stuck in his pain because he’s just a bit more human than Sam is.
“That’s good. That’s really good, Sammy.”
_____Chuck's been defeated. Jack is gone. Cas is dead. Sam is ready to build a new life but Dean's grief threatens to consume him entirely. Sam tries to accept that he can have happiness and a life, even if most of his focus is on how his brother is drowning in pain. Dean's grieving process is violent and dangerous, but ultimately his love for his angel may pull him through.

Sam watches as Dean monumentally self-destructs while grieving his angel. There will be eventual happiness.

Frankly, I thought S15E20 was a trash way to end fifteen years of character development of Dean Winchester and I abhor it. I've also always wanted to do some hurt/comfort so...voila. Vampires have COVID, someone gets sick, and Destiel becomes a real thing we can all have.

Summary
After the Empty took Castiel, Dean pushed everything he felt inside a Very Secret, Very Closed Box in his head and swallowed the key. The Box had been intact and hermetic for two years in its corner of Dean’s mind, and because of that, Dean had been able to stay sane and focused. More or less.
But now, with Cas back, with every day they didn’t talk about what's between them, the Box is starting to leak.Castiel isn't complaining, far from it: He has a roof over his head, good shower pressure and food. He’s so grateful he’s afraid. Because he believed to have all those things once before, human and lost and confused, only to have the rug pulled under his feet.
And there’s the fact that, the last time he died, he carved his heart out for Dean to take, and the hunter hasn’t said anything about it.
Maybe that’s as good an answer as he’s going to get.
