“Keith.” Shiro’s voice was quiet but commanding, snapping Keith out of his spiralling thoughts. “There are no other options. I need you to trust Lance. Trust me.”
Keith’s jaw tightened. His mind screamed at him to fight, to refuse, to do something, anything, that didn’t involve Lance risking his life like this. But Shiro was right. He exhaled sharply, forcing down the worry that threatened to bubble over.
“Fine,” Keith muttered, turning away. He looked over to the blue paladin who was still eyeing him with a perplexed look. “Just be careful, Lance.”
Lance gave him a quick grin, though Keith could see the excitement in his eyes. “I’m always careful. Don’t worry so much. Everything’s gonna be fine.”

Shiro should’ve known this was a trap.
A routine attempt to get ahead of the Galra had led them here. The seemingly innocuous cruiser they were trapped in looked like an ordinary abandoned ship on the outside, however the inside was anything but. While it had been mostly empty, the paladins had found themselves in a strange room filled with deactivated sentries.
And now Lance was— oh god. Now Lance was in rough shape.

Glaring at the boy on the ground, Keith stepped back with a roll of his eyes. “Fine. Have it your way, dumbass,” he mumbled as he walked past Lance to sit next to the tree opposite him.
“But I wouldn't suggest leaving it like that. You could at least cover it up to stop the bleeding and keep the dirt out.”
Just as Lance eyed him with an expression Keith couldn't quite place, he quickly added, “but whatever. It's your leg. Do whatever you want.”
“Who do you think you are? Coran?” Lance muttered, recognizing his own childish retort with a slight wince. “Like I said, it's just a scratch, nothing the ol’ Sharpshooter of Voltron can't handle, now try minding your own business.” Keith scoffed, but dropped the subject.
After a few seconds of silence, Lance finally asked the question that was on both of their minds.
“By the way, have you seen any of the others yet?”

Lance talks. A lot. It’s a fact of life. It’s a fact his captors really, really don’t like. And if he’s going to insist on doing so they’re going to at least make it entertaining for themselves. While the effects of the hallucinogen they drug him with are not poisonous to humans they are far from pleasant and the withdrawal symptoms even more so. Hunk and Coran have their hands full not just caring for the physical ailments but trying to reassure Lance he’s safe. And that part is far harder to do when Lance is absolutely terrified of them.
