A long long time into the future humanity has conquered and habituated the solar system all the way to the asteroid belt. People living in the Belt are outcasts and outlaws, out of sight and out of mind. It's a hard life, but at least you're free to be who you are and love who you want. Even when they don't love you back.
Even has flown with Mikael for years, and whatever hope he used to have has dwindled to stolen glances of bare skin under raised shirts. He's lonely. A single speck of dust in the middle of the vastness of space.
Sometimes specks of dust happen to drift close enough to pull each other closer.
