Summary
It was a major misconception that House was incapable of experiencing positive empathetic emotions. He certainly felt them. Frequently, in fact. But they just weren’t as comfortable for him as the almost routine misery and chaos that he felt most often. When he was feeling one of these positive emotions, he would occasionally feel the urge to do something kind, but it rarely worked out well for him. People weren’t receptive to a brief moment of kindness after being subjected to hours of his sarcastic put downs.
Somewhere along the way one person became an exception to this deeply ingrained habit.

Wilson slowly crept back to the box and lifted his hands to the flaps on the top before getting swatted away by House.
The top flap lifted up a little and House quickly placed his palms down, holding the flaps in place.
