    Everything changed for Spike after the soldiers did whatever they did to him in the lab. He can't hurt anyone, and that means he can't eat. Worse, Harmony won't help him. He has to resort to begging the Slayer and her Watcher for help. Fortunately, they agree, if rather grudgingly, after he tells them he's got information. But how long will they help him - or even let him live - if he can't tell them anything useful?

    Things changed for Buffy, too. She's the Slayer - but now she's responsible for keeping a vampire alive - well, undead - and getting information from him about soldiers in her town who might not even exist. As if that weren't bad enough, the vampire she's responsible for is the most annoying vampire in the entire history of vampires: Spike.

    It wasn't fair. Mom still wouldn't let her have friends over when she and Buffy weren't home. Not even Janice. But she did say she could go over to Mr. Giles's place. Dawn would never have guessed who was there: a vampire, chained up in Mr. Giles's bathtub. It wasn't just any vampire. It was Spike - the vampire who helped Buffy save the world from Angelus. Maybe it wasn't so bad that she wasn't allowed to have friends over, after all.
