Sometimes he’s there again, seconds away from getting on a boat in the middle of the night and escaping it all. Picking up the phone and hearing her voice in his ear, the finality coating her every word. Running, lungs aching, muscles screaming, and being too late anyway. Other times he’s in this strange new reality he’s found himself in, washed in the warm light of a peaceful morning. Domesticity feels awkward and like a heavy coat, but day by day it gets easier to wear.
