He fought against the Dkaræ bare-handed, protected Blue and Philza from the Demon armed with little more than his teeth and yet there’s no oxygen in his lungs and Tommy can’t tell if the shadows in the corners of the room is Sam admitting his presence or his own light-headedness.
“And Philza—If Blue hadn’t said anything when we were still in the cell, I’m pretty sure that Philza would’ve kill me too, and then we were leaving and yet you didn’t react,” Tommy says, words coming faster, “and from what Blue said—and the Dkaræ were terrified—”“What did Blue say?” Techno says, interrupting Tommy before he can get side-tracked too far, the hand on Tommy’s shoulder comforting and oh so terrifying, because if Tommy gets this wrong, he won’t be shipped off to Pluto with a thousand other kids like him, he’ll be dumped on Srulæn with five humans and seen the same kind of worthless that everyone else in the universe sees him as.
