The soft patter of footsteps drifting from the hallway encroaches on Kyotaro’s private, quiet hideout far away from the ruckus of the party up on the roof. Hunched over in a classroom chair, cheek resting on the cold tabletop, he huffs, watches as condensation gathers on the polished wood, but otherwise remains still. He counts down the seconds as the footsteps get closer, then scowls when the door slides open with a tinny sound. It scratches uncomfortably at his skin, but the voice that follows could soothe any itch.
“Sugishita-san! I knew I’d find you here,” Nirei says, cheery and bright. Kyortaro relaxes a little deeper into the plastic chair. He doesn’t mind company if the company is Nirei.
