Summary
Being married in secret for some time Chris and Una unsuccessfully try for a child while the specter of Chris' accident looms over them. Although Una takes her perceived failure hard they don't give up. Until a routine disaster relief mission tears them apart in the most brutal way. Una gets on the bad side of an Orion captain who kidnaps her and drugs her into obedience making her lose her memory. When Chris finally gets her back she's not only deadly afraid of him, but also pregnant.

Roughly two years ago Una Chin-Riley vanished from Chris' life by resigning her commission without stating any reason, all attempts to stop her in vain.
When the Enterprise is tasked to fight organized crime on the planet of Illyria, Una's home colony, there are more questions than answers for Chris. He finds her not only in the clasps of a local crime lord being forced to sell her body, but the child she is holding looks suspiciously like him.

Summary
After a sneak attack the Enterprise crashes on an alien planet, with the survivors having little to no hope of ever leaving again.
Matters get even more complicated when a local prophecy urges Captain Christopher Pike and his Number One to have a child together else the rest of the survivors will be killed by the locals.
When things don't go according to plan they drift apart, each afraid to hurt the other, each isolated by feelings of guilt and grief. When they realize the truth about each other, however, they are soon faced with the challenge that a lack of Federation medicine can make a human-illyrian pregnancy a dangerous endeavor.

**Novel set exclusively in the Alpha Quadrant and specifically in the Badlands in which Chakotay is painted very, very dark and quite evil. His nemesis is an equally evil Admiral Owen Paris.
On the Liberty they engage in deviant orgies amongst other things and engage in slave trading. When Voyager is destroyed in the plasma turbulences of the Badlands, only ten crew survive, among them Kathryn Janeway, captain of Voyager. They become Chakotay's prisoners being prepared for slave trading on worlds inside the Badlands.
