    Summary

Putting it as bluntly as she can, Johanna simply states, “Your parents died. Your parents loved you.”

Volkarin steeples his hands together, comprehension dawning on his features despite what continues to be left unsaid between them. “Ah. I—you never did tell me how you came to live at the Grand Necropolis.”

She scoffs. “What was there to tell? It’s only the same tale from all over Thedas. Parents have child. Parents don’t want a child with magic. Pah!” A surge of resentment swells within her. Why is she talking about this? Why is she talking about this with him? She hasn’t so much as thought about this in years. It hardly matters now. Just look at everything she’s achieved! She’s fifty-one years young and she’s going to live forever.

(Or: While Rook is trapped in the Fade prison, Johanna and Emmrich are forced to help each other overcome their own regrets.)

    Summary

The theory of Special Relativity, in simple terms, insists that the laws of physics for all observers in any inertial space relative to one another are always the same. As well as the speed of light, if observed in essential isolation is likewise the same, despite their relative motions and including its light source.

While alone, the observations are relative to one another so long as they remain perpetually in motion.

Ashur stays the night. In the soft hush of a rare morning, he braids Tarquin’s hair and remembers his mother. What begins in teasing becomes something sacred—a quiet act of love, a vow given with hands instead of words.

    Summary

Rook and Emmrich’s relationship has just started to unfold. Rook being Rook has taken on too much and it has Emmrich worried about her wellbeing.

He wants to help and calls her into his study after a busy day.

He reveals some information that leaves Rook unsettled. Tension rises and Rook wonders if there is something equally unsettling behind the carefully curated portrait of the gentleman necromancer.

Rook stares at his hands. They were the first thing that caught her eye when she met him—those long fingers, moving with careful, deliberate grace as he manipulated the gentle eddies of necromantic energy. He gestures like a man used to holding delicate things, as if everything he touches might break. And yet, there is strength there too—a quiet steadiness in the way his fingers hold a quill, thread a bone needle, cradle the occipital bone of a skull or balance a glass of wine. They can be gentle, precise. She’s seen them be dangerous.
