Well, this was not how he thought his night would be going.
Blood.
Where did it even come from? The smell, the feeling of blood dripping from talons, metallic and hot to the touch. The sight of it glinting in the moonlight. The taste.
Talons? That was new.
The blood was coming from her, hinted with cinnamon, coffee, and home. He wanted more of that scent, but he could definitely do without the blood that had accompanied it. Why was she bleeding? Why did that fill him with panic?Hermione Granger was barely standing in front of him and was bleeding. He watched the witch back up further into the forest, like he was a wounded animal that'd would retaliate from being cornered. Eyes wide- looking at the creature that would fell her if she didn’t run into the bramble.
This was not how he saw his night going.

Hermione smelled him before she saw him. Even through the fumes of coal and soot and oil, scents that were so unique to Platform 9 3/4, she sensed it. The smell of fresh grass, something woodsy, a minty note. Merlin.
She ruffled her hand through her son’s platinum blonde curls and took a deep breath. So what if he was here? So what if he showed up now, today of all days? She didn’t care. Not one single Knut from his overflowing vaults. She straightened her shoulders, tilted her head back a little.Hermione is divorced. Hurt. And barely hanging on. When her ex-husband tries to ferret (or maybe slyther?) his way back into her life by inviting her for a coffee after dropping their kids at the Hogwarts Express, she refuses. But - what damage can one single cup of coffee do?
When the conversation over that one cup of coffee continues over lunch, and then dinner, she is no longer so sure he is not back exactly where he belongs.
A oneshot that got out of hand (I can’t help it, I’m a wordy b*tch) and which I therefore had to divide up into chapters. Consider it one of those continuous shots fancy directors are so fond of. But then angsty. -
