    Summary

God and the angels have, at long last, given up on humanity, and plan to annihilate humans once and for all to wipe the slate clean. However, Charles, an angel who still holds hope for the human race, gives up everything to try and save them - his wings, his mind-reading Gift, and his fellow angel and greatest love, Erik. Erik, who holds no hope for humanity, not any more.

When Charles falls from Heaven, he is determined to save humanity from the upcoming apocalypse. Defying the orders of God and the other angels, Charles races to a small town in the desert, where the prophecy of the world's end will be fulfilled or broken. It turns out that the fate of humanity lies a small group of strangers at a diner - Moira the waitress, Darwin the cook, Sean the dishwasher, Logan the veteran, Alex the ex-con, Angel the escaping prostitute, Hank the student and the pregnant Raven, whose unborn child is the key to everything.

    Summary

Charles scrubs his tears away. “I’m sorry. I’ll be good for you, sir, I swear. I just don’t know what you want.”

“What do you mean?” Erik thinks he’s going to hurl. “There’s been a misunderstanding. I’m not like Schmidt.”

“Of course, you’re not like Shaw. That's why I want to be good for you. But I can’t behave if you don’t explain the rules.”

    ~_~

Erik raids Schmidt's compound looking for his sister. What he finds instead is a beaten -but not broken- telepath. On the run from the government and their enemies, the two men must find peace with each other in order to protect the three children his sister left behind.

    Summary

Charles doesn't talk about his childhood. It's not necessary. He likes to pretend that nothing has ever happened to him. Over time, maybe he even forgets... but not for long. Now, when they're in the house where it all took place, he can't help remembering.

Charles and Erik have an argument and Erik's yelling combined with memories the mansion is full of causes Charles to have a panic attack. Erik comforts him (and agrees not to bring it up on his own. Charles will tell him. Someday. When he's ready, which certainly isn't now).

    Summary

He would never see him again. Never feel the familiar touch of his mind against his own. Never watch the determined lines across his face as he chose his next chess move. Never see the way his gaze would flicker from the chess pieces to him when he thought Charles wasn’t looking. Never again. Charles was going to die while Erik was halfway across the world. He wondered if Erik would feel it somehow. Was it selfish of him to hope that Erik would feel the loss all the way in Genosha? At least that way Erik would be linked with him in the end, despite the distance.

He felt his pounding heartbeat begin to stagger, and he knew this must be it. Charles began to close his eyes as he heard the sound of someone running, and then the world was darkness and he knew no more. His last thought was of Erik, unknowingly going about his day in Genosha. Unaware that thousands of miles away, Charles was leaving him behind.

(This fic takes place a couple of months after X-Men: Apocalypse and is pretty much canon compliant up until then except for Charles didn't lose his hair fighting Apocalypse because that was stupid. Also, the reconstruction of the school took longer in this fic because good quality construction takes time)
