He looked back at Jude, who tilted his head. Alvin barked out a laugh, looking down at the paper again, and back to Jude.
“What, you’re going to help her? Don’t make me laugh.”
Jude wasn’t laughing, though. Instead he waited, his medical textbook that he shouldn’t even be able to read in hand. Waiting for Alvin to describe his mother’s symptoms, as if he was some sort of doctor.

Summary
Jude only played when he was frustrated.
When the anger bubbled up so violently in his chest that his hands, which were meant to heal, would hurt something. Or worse, it would hurt someone. It terrified Jude like no other. The complete loss of control, the anger in his eyes; when he looked in the mirror, he could almost see his father.
Jude respected his father as a doctor, but he never wished to become him.
He wished to remain gentle.

“I’ve been living all these years thinking that you and Aunt Leticia died, but there you were, living in another world this whole time.” Balan explained, shaking his head. “To be honest, it still doesn’t feel quite real to me.”
“Like a dream.” Alvin agreed.
He had the same feeling when he woke up back in Elympios. Almost as though everything was just a bad dream; that he would find his mother in the other room, baking a peach pie.
But his mother was long gone, and Alvin was no longer a child.
He couldn’t run anymore.
