Verso was brushing, no, playing with Monoco's hair. He carded his fingers through the thick grey fur, splitting it into sections and twiddling with it. Maelle was reminded of how the other girls at school would sit and braid each other's hair, and how they'd turned their backs to her when she tried to join in. The sting of the memory mixed with the constant ache of loss in her chest, and she crossed her arms again, trying to push the feelings away. Better to be angry.
