“I haven’t seen Keith smile like that in a while,” Shiro explains.
Oh. That makes Lance’s stomach swirl with something strange. He really shouldn’t be catching feelings for someone the first time they meet.
“I must be really funny,” Lance offers.

Lance's life is crumbling in on him, like it does for most high schoolers, but one broken down car and a motorcycle ride with a hot stranger later, things seem to be looking up just a bit.

“Keith!”
He blinks, trying to make sense of the image on the tablet that Pidge is holding in front of his face. It takes a moment, but then, “holy shit.”
“That’s him, right? That’s gotta be?”
“It has to,” Keith agrees, “I thought he might’ve died by now."
“If there’s anyone to manage surviving alone in an infinite universe off of dumb luck for two entire years, it’s Lance,” Pidge replies, something soft in her grin.
They go with hope filling their chests, eyes bright and determination clear. Because he left; because he's been gone.
And when the lead is as dead as they've all been, Sol asks, “is it worth looking?”
Keith looks to him a moment, and shakes his head. Because Sol stays and Lance goes, and maybe…
Maybe Keith can live with that, now.

“Find anything good?” Pidge’s voice crackled over the headset.
Shiro swallowed.
Glanced down at the trembling form in his arms.
“I…” his own voice shook. “I found Lance.”/ Lance has been rescued by his team after a month of captivity. He’s sick, injured, and scared doesn’t even begin to cover how terrified he is. There’s far more to heal than just a broken body, but Team Voltron will not give up. They brought him home and now they are going to bring him back. They know their Lance is still in there. And they are going to find him.

Five times the team realizes Lance isn't okay, and one time they start to make things better. OR, Lance is depressed and has gone mute after the events at Omega Shield. It isn't until they reach Earth and he begins using sign language with his family that they really notice how distant Lance has become.

Summary
Pidge decides to run Keith, Lance, and Shiro through some experiments to see exactly how Keith’s Galra genes give him the advantage. Lance is not happy to be reminded of how much better Keith is at everything than him. It’s no fun to have the guy you love constantly stay ahead of you. Lance just wants Keith to think he’s awesome, too, but first he has to BE awesome, and that doesn’t look like it will happen anytime soon.
