Summary
Charles knows he is handsome, and when the imposter syndrome doesn’t hit him like a high speed train, he knows he is smart. He has enough money to live an easy life and a best friend that knew him better than he knew himself. All in all, nothing to write home about. He had his few good things in life and a few skeletons in the closet like everyone does. Yet, he never really managed to trust enough to date for years, escaping all possible romantic prospects, practically wedded to his job, yet way too stubborn that he managed to make most of his coworkers turn on him. So it wasn’t that much of a happy marriage really.
All it took was one casual work event that was thrust on him against his inclinations for everything to change.
For better or for worse, he wasn’t too sure!

Charles’ jaw dropped to the floor, while the corner of Carlos’ mouth turned smug. It was almost a little mean.
“Just think about it,” Carlos said, tone polite. “Have you ever noticed that I have never once approached you? And I have been exhaustively civil every time we’ve spoken. Yet here you are, seeking me out again.” He took a sip of his champagne. “Simply an observation.”
