“I was expecting your doorman.” John said, a little twist of humor sneaking past his shaken exterior.
“I fired him.”
It was a whole thing, something about the man pocketing a few trinkets here and there… Terry really didn’t want to get into it, not when more pressing matters were at hand. Neither of them spoke again, until Terry was swinging open a door and ushering John into one of his guest bedrooms, and onto the en suite.
“This place is ridiculous.” John grumbled, dropping almost instantly onto the edge of the Jacuzzi tub, like he’d been waiting for a chance to rest his weary bones.
“Is that why you never visit?” Terry asked, wincing at the slip. He always tried to welcome John with open arms, make the most of it.
“I’m here now, aren’t I?”
