    Summary

Obi-Wan felt Xanatos’ gaze as it settled on his face. There was no malice in the midnight blue eyes, no deception in the bright smile, but the sharp edge of his intense perception stabbed Obi-Wan through the heart, and left him feeling as if he had been pinned to the wall and held there for examination, like some strange insect on display.
'Who are you?' Xanatos seemed to ask. 'What are you doing here?'

Tahl, Qui-Gon, and a newly-apprenticed Obi-Wan finally arrive at Bandomeer, only to find that a ghost from Qui-Gon’s past has beat them to it. Jedi Apprentice AU featuring Master and Padawan bonds, things that explode, aircraft theft, new friends and old enemies.

    Summary

It had not taken much to convince the cart-driver he belonged among the dead. With eyes bruised black and ghastly pale skin, he looked far more like a ghost than a living, human boy. He had no strength left to rise, but this only served to complete the illusion that he belonged with the other passengers in the cart; those who would never rise again. Obi-Wan was lifted from the ground, heaved over the driver’s shoulder, and tossed atop the pile of stiff limbs and frozen faces. It should have been enough to make him sick, but he was already too sick to notice the difference. He closed his eyes and drifted, far away.

Obi-Wan makes a desperate attempt to escape an isolated city that has been overtaken by disease, in the hopes of finding his Master, and a cure, before it is too late.

    Summary

Luminous beings are we, Yoda was fond of saying, and Obi-Wan felt that he was beginning to understand it. Qui-Gon often appeared cool and commanding, but his Force-presence was warm and gentle. He wrapped Obi-Wan in a sense of calm security. Achieving a healing trance felt less like falling asleep, and more like waking up—waking up in a luminous world of warmth and light.

But as he reached for the hazy glow of the Force, Obi-Wan’s attention was drawn elsewhere: to small specks of shadow that had slipped past Qui-Gon’s shields. Amidst the comfort and safety, he caught glimpses of fear, anguish, and despair. They burst like bubbles when he brushed against them, vanishing into the clear golden light, but Obi-Wan felt his heart freeze in the instant he touched them. Even the briefest glimpse of grief was overwhelming. He could not imagine what it must feel like to live like this, day in and day out.

Focus, Qui-Gon whispered, and Obi-Wan forced himself to look away.

A Jedi Apprentice Book 1 AU centered on the bond blossoming between Master and Apprentice-to-be. A spin on familiar events, with a healthy dose of Tahl, for good measure.

    Summary

A burst of pain tore through the Force, wreathed in those familiar, fiery, unrestrained emotions that could belong to only one person. Obi-Wan gritted his teeth and sent the speeder into a nosedive, following the direction of the Force signature. It was difficult to tell whether the dropping feeling came from his speeder’s high-speed descent, or from the plummeting of his heart at the thought of what had become of Anakin.

    Summary

Obi-Wan dragged his boots over the dry grass. It crackled sadly beneath his feeble footsteps. Scattered rain clouds scudded overhead, passing them by in favor of greener lands less desperate for a taste of water. They paid no heed to the two Jedi toiling below them, and the Jedi had long since ceased to pay them any attention in return. Better to focus on the present moment, on the path directly ahead, and not waste energy on vain hopes destined to be blown away by the wind.

“I’m going to faint,” Obi-Wan stated matter-of-factly, and a moment later he made good on his promise, slackened muscles giving way as he turned into a deadweight in his Master’s arms.

    Summary

“What are they?” Obi-Wan asked, as one speck of light drifted in front of his face. He sensed that it was not alive, and yet he could hardly bring himself to believe it. The sparks felt in his sight the way the glow of living things felt in the Force.
“They are nokisihi," Qui-Gon replied. "Some here believe they are the spirits of the dead, returning to visit their loved ones.”
“Oh.” Obi-Wan tilted his head to one side, trying to gain a closer look at the spark nearest to his face. Could it contain a soul?

    Summary

He had himself introduced the ritual dance to Xanatos, as an exercise in communication between Master and Padawan, and had hoped to one day share it with Obi-Wan—but he refrained from mentioning either of his former students to Tahl. The names of the absent Padawans were weeping wounds in his heart, and he saw no reason to open them further. “Shall we?” he asked instead, extending his hands to Tahl, simultaneously projecting the motion into the Force.

Tahl struggles to cope with the loss of her vision. Qui-Gon offers a solution.

    Summary

The planet in front of him was growing larger at an alarming rate. Obi-Wan shot a look at the man seated in the cockpit beside him, who appeared unsettlingly unperturbed by the cloudy orange expanse rapidly filling the viewport. “I don’t suppose you’d like to take over, Master?”

His question had not been a hopeful one; Qui-Gon’s answer came as no great surprise. “This is your flying lesson,” Qui-Gon placidly informed him. “Not mine.”

Two brief moments: one set early in Obi-Wan's apprenticeship, and one set early in Anakin's. A reflection on teamwork, tragedy, and tea.

    Summary

“These bandages need to be changed,” Qui-Gon said. He gently tugged Obi-Wan’s tunic collar back over his shoulder, and fixed him with a steady gaze. “Is this your only injury?” he asked.

    Obi-Wan reluctantly shook his head.

    Summary

As he took in the maze of cuts and bruises that covered Obi-Wan’s face, Qui-Gon found he barely recognized the bold young Initiate who had begged to be taken as a Padawan. In front of him lay a mere child: small, fragile, and trembling.
Qui-Gon drew his hand away from Obi-Wan’s forehead. “Call the medics,” he told Clat’Ha.

Qui-Gon swore never to take another Padawan, and he intends to keep that promise. But on the way to Bandomeer, when an unfortunate encounter with a Hutt puts Obi-Wan in sickbay with serious injuries and a high fever, Qui-Gon cannot help but worry for him.

    Summary

“Three of you?” Qui-Gon remarked. “The Council’s faith in myself and Obi-Wan must be worse than I feared, if they feel the need to send so many to accompany us.”

“Oh, I’m sure it’s not you and Obi-Wan they’re worried about,” Tahl assured him. “More than likely, it’s just you.”

“I see you share in their confidence.”

Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan are reunited with old friends when Tahl, Bant, and Garen are sent to join them on their mission returning to Naboo. They must work together to free Naboo from the Trade Federation and track down the Sith Lord--and keep each other from getting killed in the process.

    Summary

“Concentrating on the water, you are,” Yoda said. “A mistake, this is. In your mind, the fault lies. Not in the water.”
Dooku opened his eyes. “I’m…not certain I understand, Master.”
“A reflection, the water is,” Yoda explained. “When calm, your mind is, calm, the water will be.” He dipped a finger in the basin. “Again, Dooku.”

The lesson remains the same, but every individual experiences it differently.

Variations on a single training exercise passed from Master to Padawan over many generations.

“You got to swim in the lake?” Ahsoka asked. She suddenly dropped her voice lower, as if they were exchanging secrets. “Did you see anything while you were down there?”

    “See anything like what?”

“You’d know if you saw it,” Ahsoka told him.

    “Saw what?” Caleb prodded.

Ahsoka crossed her arms. “I shouldn’t say. It’s not right to tell rumors. And besides, you could get scared.”

Four-year-old Caleb Dume meets a friendly Togruta girl in the refectory. He’s pleased to have made a new acquaintance, but when she mentions a monstrous creature that might be lurking in the depths of the Temple, Caleb wonders if any Initiate is truly safe.

    Summary

    There was darkness here.
It was a most unpleasant place, filled with most unpleasant people. They had taken his cloak. They had taken his lightsaber. They had even taken his boots. The cell held only the barest basics, and the lights had shut off hours ago. Obi-Wan sat cross-legged on his tattered sleep mat, eyes closed against the darkness, arms crossed against the cold. He shivered. The darkness was overpowering, in more ways than one.

Imprisoned and separated from his Master, Obi-Wan turns to the Force for comfort.
