Commander Slate has been honourably chosen to lead a military ship that is trialling a new crew structure for the Human-Ailu't Alliance. Up until now, all spaceships have been maintained by either all-human or all-Ailu't crews. In this first for both species, Slate must keep control of two small armies under one metal roof.
Dr Bonnie worked extensively with the Alliance prior to being selected for the trial aboard The Sentinel, and is confident in her ability to tend to her patients of both species. Her Ailu’t commander, however, is insistent in getting in her way at every turn.
In this battle of stubborn human psychiatrist versus stubborn alien soldier, it is unclear what the end prize actually is. But neither will back down until they find out. Unfortunately, they have plenty to fight over as The Sentinel faces assaults and betrayals back to back, just a few months into deployment. And one more piece of chaos to add to the mix: both their female subordinates have gone gooey-eyed for each other.
