His knife kept a steady rhythm on the board and as soon as he'd finished, he scraped the diced veg into the bowl while V kept stirring. Then, tinned tomatoes next. “Old family recipe.”

Her eyes narrowed watching the shadows for something to emerge. Leon wrapped his hand around her wrist then pushed her arms down, still smirking like before although a part of her recognised this smile was more or less mocking.
“At least I know nothing will get past you,” he mused, though for reassurance even he quickly looked the woods over in case zombies or another fleshy mass like down in the fishing village had wandered this far over. “Come on,” he didn't give her enough time to come up with a smart-arse reply as he'd already started walking, following the only coherent path between the trees.

In a strange, comfortable silence, they walked out of the tower and towards the docks that rested just below. This late at night meant Waterdeep was eerily still, even the ocean seemed to halt as the water swayed gently against the brick foundations of the city that supported walkways, a church and a dreary tavern they had frequented since their arrival. It was oddly tranquil, with no dock workers pushing and shoving their way through crowds carrying buckets and nets of fish freshly caught for the day, or drunkards slumped in alleyways too drunk to find their way home.
