Summary
NB: I have crossposted this story to Royalroad under the title System Override.
A forced experimental drug treatment at an early age has saddled David with an immense burden.
His mother’s insistence on his current lifepath as a corpo has done much the same.
David is a speeding ball of fire hurtling towards an unknown destination, and his mother’s death has left him adrift and unsure of his direction.
So he does what any teenager with no more fucks left to give does—he chips in some mil-spec chrome and looks for a quick way to earn edds, all the while learning to utilize the nanotechnology that had been forced on him as a child—finding out the immense potential within him as a result.
Corpo or Edgerunner? Why not both? And why not the best of both while we’re fucking at it?

Summary
The Counter Force senses something in this parallel world, something that could spell doom for humanities continued survival. Even with its influence waning, it sends its best soldier to clean it up, and hopefully diverge the apocalypse from occurring.
But alas, the counter-guardian EMIYA cannot find a reason as to why he was summoned to this dystopian hellhole in the first place.

Alternate Ending.
David thought he was flatlined by Adam Smasher.
A second chance said otherwise. The Cyber Skeleton pushed him over the edge. It also saved him. Secondary functions compiled data of his final fight and fall in the cyberpsychosis. Revived by an unknown party with gaps in his memory, David reached out for the one person he needed most.
Lucy.
She took his hand once more to guide him though the lingering psychosis and fix his splintered mind. They take listening to heart this time with open lines of communication.
More than that, they rediscover what love can do.
