Summary
Oliver Wendel Ouelette is just sixteen years old when he's selected to become one of the Avowed, Earth's superpowered elite. Unfortunately for him, he's selected as a Sway - a mental manipulator, able to read and change the minds of others at a whim. Disowned by his terrified parents and banished to the Avowed nation of Anesidora, he's left to try to build a new life for himself on an island only barely more friendly to people like him than the place he left. Trapped in a prison-within-a-prison with two hundred other teens going through the same adjustments, he'll have to carve out his new self and maybe learn something about his powers along the way.
Elsewhere on the island, Nadira Lakhnavi is chasing a murderer. Someone is forcing people to commit violent suicide, and their targets are exactly the kind of people who should be most resistant to that kind of manipulation: powerful, high-ranking sways. As a member of Anesidora's first battlegroup, it's her responsibility to find the killer before the already-abused superpowered population starts to panic, and before the killer targets the highest-ranking sway around: her. The pressure is building, and the authorities can only keep the lid on the pot for so long...

Sirius can't leave his goddaughter Harriet alone in the destroyed cottage, it's too dangerous, even if the Headmaster is probably on his way right now. But he also can't wait any longer, Peter's apparition trail is starting to fade, and he needs to catch the traitorous rat, needs to kill him.
But maybe there's a way.
Sirius' parents are dead, and Grimmauld Place is empty.
- "This is Harriet Potter, Dorea's blood," he said, watching his goddaughter, as Kreacher muttered something about mudbloods, "you will bring her to Grimmauld Place. You will treat her and care for her as if she was an heir of House Black."
