“We left before we could see them, do you know what they look like?”
“White and gold,” he says, “lock your servant up if you see them. They aren’t who they used to be.”
Vi thinks she might be sick.
“They belong to the Herald now.”
Vi and Jinx escape the bunker together and disaster follows.

“Sir Caitlyn,” says Vi.
“Your Highness,” says his knight and in the summer moonlight he is ethereal. He pauses, takes a step back at Vi’s advance, lets Vi trap him against the stone wall. “If word got out—”
Vi chuckles, wraps his hand in the tunic of his knight to pull him closer.
“Well we’ll just have to make sure word doesn’t get out.” He grins. “What kind of King would I be if I couldn’t keep a little secret?”
Caitlyn stops, holds right there, blue to grey. The distant cicada buzzes. Then he chuckles. He settles into a smile, the sunrise on the furthest seas. His hands are warm, his fingers long as they twine into the velvet of Vi’s top.
“You make me reckless,” he says and closes the distance with a kiss.
