“You haven't lost me, Arthur,” John murmured, pulling one leg up on the bed to fully face Arthur. “Come here.”
With a bit of help from John, Arthur sat up, and John embraced him tightly. He felt Arthur's hands on his back, careful, like it was the first time they were close. John hid his face in the crook of Arthur’s neck, taking in Arthur’s smell and warmth. He pressed his lips softly to the skin to feel his pulse under his lips.
It was still so new. And yet, so familiar.
“I love you, Arthur,” John whispered into his neck. “I love you.”--

Summary
He does his best to focus on his own breathing, to pay no mind to John's oh so tender ministrations. It's all treatment, anyway, and should be regarded as such, in a clinical, detached manner; John is administering blood to his patient, as he always does, and Arthur's job is to stay still, let the blood take and heal his wounds. It's difficult, however, to abort the spasmodic twitch in his hand, the urge to reach out to John, brace himself, especially when he’s lapping on the raw cut on his shoulder like a starved man, holding Arthur's jaw in his unclad palm, while the other planted itself on Arthur's midriff, all points of contact so unbearably hot. If it was due to John's divine nature – Arthur can’t bring himself to care. His steady breath stutters and quickens, lungs oversaturating with oxygen; he feels light-headed.

Kayne doesn't fully hold his end of the deal. John ends up with Arthur's body and Faroe, with Arthur nowhere to be found. John takes on the role of Arthur and raises Faroe, dealing with the emotional turmoil of being a new parent and feeling guilty that his friend isn’t the one here.
