Summary
Charles remembers the Max Verstappen from her karting days: awkward, lanky, rude and brutish. The man that stood before her now was exactly that: a man - one very different from the one she knew when she was younger. As Charles took in Max's appearance for the first time in person in over 10 years, an undeniable warmth stirred in her stomach and she gave up trying to force it down. Whatever, he was hot now, sue her. It didn’t mean anything anyway.
Or; Charles quit karting at 14, fell in love with Pierre and moved on with her life. It never stopped her from wondering what could have been.

Summary
I remember the night, of conquest and victory,
the blood you left behind, writing a new legacy (Oh!)I remember the night, filled with whispers,
hours before my flight, burning my skin with kisses (Oh!)Yet I try, oh I try, to forget, the morning after,
filled with self-hate and regret, this is a fucking disaster.
— Lyrics from ‘Morning After’ (Love is War, 2022) by Charles LeclercOR: In which Charles never went beyond karting and instead became famous for her other talents. And still, Max and her are destined for each other. They still end up hurting each other.

Summary
Initially, Charles wasn’t too worried. He knew that Max had been Sim Racing the previous evening; it was why Charles hadn’t crashed at his place as he often did (when they had time off or plans the next morning), instead returning to his own apartment for the evening.
So, it was logical – if not expected – for Max to be running a few minutes late.
But, as a few minutes turned into 10, then into 20, Charles became increasingly stressed, smiling tightly at the organizers of the padel event that he and Max had agreed to play in, assuring them that Max must be on his way.
