Summary
Neil thinks that putting Riko's biggest victim back together is the biggest fuck you they can give him. Wymack worries about this kid, who was almost one of his Foxes, rescued from the same situation his own son carries scars of. Jeremy's starting to see the depths of the cracks in Jean's soul and beginning to wonder if he hasn't already put one there.
Jean is trying his best. He's just not sure why no one thinks it's good enough. Look, he's even smiling.
Or:
"If we treat you with care," Jeremy asks, "will you believe you deserve it? Isn't that only fair?" One hand is still on his head, now shifted to the top of it and stroking with a gentleness Jean does not remember experiencing. Hands in his hair have always been to pull.
Jean is being ruled by his urges today, in a way that is truly unforgiveable, but he needs this to stop. He needs Jeremy to come closer and he needs him to go away and he needs this day to end.
"Can you tell me something about yourself?" Jeremy whispers, and his hand keeps stroking.
"I have a younger sister," he blurts.

Summary
5 lies Jean will always try to tell and the 1 time he can't.
"Jean is a good liar. It is as true as the statements: Jean is a Moreau, Jean is an exy defender and nothing more, Jean will endure.
The Ravens notice his injuries. He has learned it is fruitless to hide from violence or tuck away the imprints it leaves on his body. They see it all anyway, in the locker rooms, in the showers, in his bedroom and in their beds. They target his weak spots in practice, as they always have. If some of them delight more in this physical torment than the usual calls of whore, false court, faggot then really it is their loss because he makes a note and knows who not to turn his back to.
But beyond the ways his body betrays him, Jean is a good liar."

Summary
There are a series of conversations that you eventually have with yourself, when there is no one left for you in the world. Peter has them a little early.
Growing up is about figuring it all out, but there is something especially heavy about being 17 and completely alone. It aches, and it always will, but he comes out of it strong and wise, warm and capable.
One day, he wakes up without the chill of grief or the searing heat of loneliness and realizes they’ve left him with a spine strong enough to hold up his legacy and the legacy of everyone who has ever shaped him.
