This fic features a McDanno relationship that started just prior to Steve's disaster of a mission to save his mom in Mexico, and takes place just after her death. The focus is on Steve processing (sometimes more successfully than others) his grief, and the extended repercussions to his sister and Danny. POV swaps between Danny and Steve, and while it isn’t a happy time, all of the characters lean on and support eachother, and things are looking brighter by the end of the fic.

I LOVED Stan, Rachel, and Danny being mobsters together; the interpersonal relationships, sharp teasing and murder threats, were hella fun. The whole plot goes pretty quickly, most of the fic is spent on the conversational (and sexually tensioned) moments, and works through the establishment of the core 5-0 team and big baddies. Of course, criminals and law-men cant just jump into bed together and ride off into the sunset, but this fic has as close to a fairytale ending as could be believable.

Shang’s eyes went wide as he followed the arrow’s trajectory to the fifty-foot pole in the center of the camp. A tired but satisfied Ping grinned down at the men from his perch at the top, Strength and Discipline draped casually over his shoulder.
As he registered the sound of cheers, something warm blossomed in Shang’s chest. He had no idea what to make of it.
Or, Li Shang is pure of ass, dumb of heart, and very bisexual.

This fic is mostly extrapolating from the cartoon, extending conversations and scenes that were already a part of it, and the author did a really good job of making them fit. The characters still carry their core values through, and the emotions given to Shang make sense for his history and where the story leads. From the power dynamic to The Secret reveal, his reactions and understanding of his and Ping's relationship were confused and a bit awkward, but he really was trying his best. It's cute without being fluffy, and makes me want to go do kickboxing or something.

When Danny Williams signed up for Starfleet, he was expecting to work on a space station. Unfortunately, he made the mistake of being heroic on Rigel VII and saving Captain Pike--and Captain Pike recommended Danny to be the next First Officer on the USS Enterprise.
The USS Enterprise, captained by McGarrett, who had already gone through three First Officers.
Danny didn’t understand why he was being punished for saving his captain’s life.

This series includes a bunch of interconnected events based on whump prompts, so much like in Star Trek, something is generally bound to go wrong. But it also means that the good guys come out on top in the end. The relationship portion is fairly understated with most of the focus being on how the crew tackle each obstacle.

This fic has Tim going through the wringer a bit, but he is competent even without bat training and eventually gets pulled into the group anyways.
