Summary
After Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn succeeded in killing Darth Maul during their duel on Naboo, he returns as celebrated Sith killer to Coruscant, where the Jedi Council grants him the young Anakin Skywalker as his Padawan. His previous Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi, who has to pass his trials to become a Jedi Knight in a hurry and does so with distinction, feels set back and neglected by his former master, not appreciated. The newly elected supreme chancellor Sheev Palpatine becomes aware of the young and undeniably handsome Jedi, who has a remarkable talent for diplomacy, and considers that he might be useful to him for his own purposes and political career.

Mace Windu is drawn to Obi-Wan Kenobi. Whether it may be the Force, or the sheer amount of shatter points surrounding him, or even just his tired blue eyes. He can’t help it.
When Obi-Wan’s visions get too bad for his crechemaster to properly care for him and the rest of his clan, Mace makes a decision.

So he gets out,
On a transport to Mandalore.
What could go wrong? Or maybe, what could go right?
(Or, Obi is sick of Qui-gon and runs away to Mandalore. Mandalorians see a lone, adorable, scrappy child and immediately become obsessed, though not as much as Cody)
