"Spock never learned how to swim but the federation just implemented new standards, he's gonna have to learn fast or sink. Kirk offers to teach him in his free time. I wouldn't be against some kind of incident happening, like almost drowning, because I can't help wanting a sprinkle of angst.... "

Snippet:
“Swimming’s not something you can learn from a book,” Bones asserted gruffly. “And if you do it wrong, you might drown.”
“Thank you for what I take is concern, Doctor, however I’m sure I’ll be fine,” Spock maintained. He cocked an eyebrow. “Unless you happen to know any nearby swim instructors.”
“Forget that.” Jim stood up. He faced Spock and placed his hands on Spock’s shoulders. “I’m going to teach you how to swim.”It was as if The Enterprise was suspended in space along with everything in it: the Bridge’s activity ceased as all eyes turned towards Spock and Jim, stunned by the Captain’s proposal—and frozen still in waiting for the Vulcan’s response.
