Summary
The man Patroclus fell in love with in life and the man Achilles is now have very little in common. Achilles is only a shadow of what he once was, a pale imitation. For the most part, Achilles thinks the changes have all been for the better, but will Patroclus? That's not a risk Achilles can take.
Achilles dons a charade of his living self like an armor, uncaring of whatever consequences come along. If their prince gets hurt in the process, well that's just one of the Fates' many prices for his forever with Patroclus.
