Summary
He expects to open his eyes, metaphorically speaking, in the Halls of Mandos. That is where the dead go, after all, and after being killed by Morgoth he is indisputably dead. And after the unbearable weight and pain of the last few centuries, he finds himself almost looking forward to the supposed peace of it.
He is therefore moderately bewildered when he finds himself awakening in Barad Eithel.

Summary
Gustave let go of a heavy sigh and nodded his head. Back in the Stone Wave Cliffs, he had come to peace that this was where his journey ended—For those who come after, right?—but it seemed like his story wasn't done just yet. Maelle had, somehow, given him another lease on life, and this time, he could live it. He could grow old. He could do things simply for the sake of doing them; every waking moment didn't have to be dedicated to trying to solve the issue with the Paintress, with preserving their civilization.

Or: Maelle returns Lumière to its former glory, but... things just seem a bit off. Gustave investigates.Bookmarked by Queerjk

Summary
His gaze, inevitably, is drawn back to Finrod, the marred beauty of him. It has not been Curufin who ruined him so—had not been Curufin who had dragged him out of Nargothrond and into the wolf’s den, who had let Finrod protect him with his life. And yet.
And yet it feels oddly fitting, that such a ruined thing should be Curufin’s.
Through careful manoeuvring and a few lucky coincidences, Curufin saves Finrod's life without having to admit to anything so humiliating as having emotions. Contrary to what one would expect, this does not make things all that much easier.
Alternatively: Curufin lies, Finrod lives, and somehow they do still manage to figure it out, for better or for worse.
