Summary

Harry tried turning toward them all only to realize that he was stuck on something.
Perplexed, Harry looked and saw his hand was somehow attached to a elongated piece of Christmas Cracker tubing.
Making it even more strange is the fact that Hermione was also somehow stuck to the other end with the most indignant look on her face.
She was also seeming to rant soundlessly, as if she was so mad couldn’t even speak, which seemingly increased the merriment of the others in the room.

It was beyond poetry in motion, beyond spectacle. If he hadn’t already known she was a witch, he would known she was magical just by watching her here, on the ice. But it was all her, all Hermione. Brilliant in more ways than one, so many that he feels like he discovers a new one every other day.
She’d told him she’d had a legit chance, when she was younger.
There were scouts, recruiters. She’d had offers.
Pushed for big things.
Medal worthy things.
But then, she made a deal.
First, she picked magic, then she picked him.
Said it was the easiest choice she’d ever made.
Said she’d never regretted it.
Not once.
And then said he was the best part of the deal
In that moment, he definitely knew.
She was her.

At the sound, Hermione turned to look at her elf friend and her familiar. Her hands were clenched in front of her face, it was taking all of her will to keep herself from biting her nails.

“Now, Winky- um- are you- um-…”
“Mistress Hermione, Winky is sure Master Harry will love Mistress Hermione’s gift. Winky is sure that Mistress Hermione’s surprise is still on. Winky is sure that Master Harry is still clueless.”
Hermione gaped at her, then giggled in spite of herself.
Crookshanks meowed wryly.

Dobby put a hand on Harry’s arm in a consoling manner. “Dobby will find Harry Potter Sir’s Grangy, and take you to her, to be what she needs. Yes, Dobby will.”
Before Harry can even respond, Dobby disappeared in a blink.
Harry gasped, remembering all of Hermione’s lectures about the impossibility of Apparating in Hogwarts. Before Harry could wrap his head around the casual breaking of a official Hermione-certified law of magic, he felt Dobby’s hand on his arm again.
Now Dobby had him breaking Hermione’s laws of magic as well.
Great.
Yet, this didn’t feel like wizard travel. Instead, Harry was embraced by waves of gentle energy and simply moved along, almost kindly.
This was nothing like the feelings involved in floo travel or apparitions or portkeys. This wasn’t Harry been torn asunder or spun about only to somehow land at a new locale somehow hale and hearty yet still arse over teakettle.
This was a friend hugging him from one space to another.
It was beautiful.
It also reminded him of Hermione.

He looked at her with all the affection he could muster, and shrugged. “I will be.” She squeezed his hand, affirming them in that time and space, looking out at him affectionately while resembling a familiar stranger.
The moment was too uncannily surreal for him to maintain composure.
Harry snorted, then smothered a chortle behind his free hand, a hand that was his yet not his.
Hermione broke as well, just sniggering away. At least her laugh was similar.
Hermione grinned broadly. “Oh, honestly. It’s-. Just-…Too weird. Ridiculous. Even for us. It actually took me an extra few just to realize you were truly bothered just then, all because I was struggling to read you like I normally do.”
He turned to her, scoffing playfully, deflecting a bit. “Read me? Like one of your books? Am I a book to you, Granger?”
Despite her temporarily different face, Hermione’s expression was still her familiar blend of warmth, bright, genuine, yet knowing. She gave him a look, then gave him a pass. “Yes, you are.” She smiled coyly. “And one of my favorites, too. If you must know.”

“Maybe I did.” Harry smilies at her then. A real smile. Her eyes widened, but he made no motion to take it back or play it off. Just shrugged, & smiled at her knowingly.
