Her hand brushed gently against his mangled face. He was just starting to regain feeling in it. He shivered in anticipation. Her touch was so gentle.
He bent forward and pressed his forehead to hers. She anticipated his move and stretched up to meet him on the very tips of her toes.
“You did some research too, huh?” He asked her quietly.
“A little,” she said. “I’m nervous too. You’re my best friend, Garrus. But… you’re also my best friend.”

Summary
Jane Shepard, the heiress to Normandy House, has always and will always regard marriage to be nothing more than a sham. She'd rather live the life of a spinster than the life of a wife. But when the future of Normandy House is thrown out of her favor, she begrudgingly enters the marriage mart. After months of failure, a sliver of hope presents itself in the form of Viscount Garrus Vakarian, known playboy, rake, slut, and all other like terms. He proposes a daring plan: pretend to court and marry for a span of four months, before Garrus fakes his death and abandons the Citadel for good. It secures Shepard's claim to Normandy House and offers the benefits of widowed life, while favoring Garrus and his all-too secretive plans he shares with no one, including Shepard. But through the fake longing gazes and fabricated dates and the tense waltzes in balls, Shepard begins to fear the one thing that could scare her more than the prospect of marriage.

Shepard has never been one to sit around and wait for others to figure it out. She’s always preferred her own boots on the ground, no matter how many waves of husks, or Collectors, or goddamned Reapers might stand in her way. She doesn’t like this. She wouldn’t like it if any other ship was missing, and she certainly doesn’t like it now.
How could she ever trust anyone else to find the Normandy? To turn every stone? Earmark every page?
When Shepard wakes up after everything, Garrus isn't there. And with the Normandy currently missing without a trace, neither is anyone else.
Alone, injured, and stuck in a small hospital on Earth, all she can do is wait for progress to come.
