    Summary

I've recently been unexpectedly promoted to lead a department in my organisation, wrote the anonymous emailer.

As there was no one working here when I arrived, my manager, who is head of the organisation, had promised me the choice of my own assistants. However, without warning, he simply presented me with an additional assistant. This new assistant’s first act on his first day was to let a dog into the office. It took several hours to catch and clean up after this dog and it has only been downhill from there. I admit I'm not entirely sure what to do with this assistant now I'm stuck with him. I'm hoping you have some advice?

    Kind regards,
    New Manager

The stranger smiles, eyes wet, like Martin’s just given him everything he’s ever dreamed of and more. “Just—look around. We did it, Martin, we made it.”

Martin flinches back, out of reach of the man’s bloodstained hands, and stares at him. Something is wrong here. So, so wrong. From the blood anointing them both to the way this man says his name like there are worlds of meaning behind it, everything about this is wrong. “Did what?” he pleads. “I- I’m sorry, do I know you?”

if you read only one post-canon fic, make it this one; perfect characterisation, beautiful romance, heartbreaking feelings, and every chapter made me cry 10/10

She wakes, back in her thirty years old body. She looks at herself in the mirror, naked, eyes sliding over shapes both familiar and foreign. All the traces of the years that she lived, gone. No calluses on her hands from gardening, no wrinkles from the sun, no scars, no dry elbows - she’s as she was, before. She doesn’t know if she likes it.

    Summary

Elias's inability to See through Jon's eyes is something he knew would happen. It has, however, turned out to not be as much of a hindrance as he’d expected.

There is, after all, always Martin Blackwood.

    ...

Elias clenches his hand around his glass and gives into the temptation to take another drink. If he concentrates, he can see the stain from yesterday's lunch on Jon's shirt, wrinkled from wear; or the fact that his old-fashioned, ill-fitting glasses and cardigan make him look like Gertrude herself. Or even the fact that the office is grey and smells faintly of mildew and stale human odour, and is filled with towering masses of mess and paperwork. Only if he concentrates. If he doesn't, all of that mundane unpleasantness fades to nothing and instead his view of the world is passed through Martin's filter. "Oh my god do you think he'd let me braid his hair he's so pretty - stop it Martin he doesn't think of you like that - maybe we could go to dinner maybe I could make dinner - shit I can't cook - wait no he doesn't - nngh hair."

    ~

In the run up to the Unknowing, Elias checks in on the Archives team. They do not realise this.

    Summary

“Look, this thing with Peter… I need to see it through. And that means I need to be…”

    “Lonely,” Jon finished for him.

“Yeah.” Martin raised the damp towel to Jon’s forehead. Gentler this time, he began to wipe away the blood and grime. “But if you think no one will care if you get hurt, then you’re wrong.”

Jon lifted his hand as though to hold Martin’s hand in place, then thought better of it and lowered it into his lap. “Right.”

“And if you go back into that coffin, I’m climbing in after you and pulling you back out.”

Jon glanced up, the ghost of a smile playing on his lips. He looked small, and frail, and so, so tired. Martin could feel his carefully-curated numbness slip away as his heart clenched at the sight.

“When was the last time you ate?” he asked. Old habits die hard.

“I-I don’t know. It didn’t matter so much, in the Buried.”

“Well, you’re not in the Buried anymore. C’mon.”

When Jon gets out of the Buried, he and Martin have a talk.
