Sometimes when he lay awake at night with just the sounds of cars and people to keep him company he whispered her name. Just to himself, over and over again, a prayer of sorts. Something for his ears only. If he said her name enough times, if he breathed ‘Annabeth’ to the stars enough, would she appear? Would she hold his face in her hands, rough pads wiping the tears from his eyes as he finally let himself crack? Would she brush his hair behind his ear and tell him he was safe now?

Speaking of Yuuji, it’s been two weeks since the pink-haired sorcerer last stood in their apartment, humming tunelessly while flipping eggs perfectly in a pan. The memory of it is domestic and corny, but Megumi cherishes it.
Megumi isn't the clingy type, and he’s gone longer than two weeks without seeing Yuuji before during their student years. But maybe he’s gone soft, especially when the silence of their apartment makes the noise of his students feel louder than it really is.
'Just a few more days, then it's the weekend.' Megumi tells himself. Mostly because Yuuji’s coming back on Saturday, and that means no more eating leftover takeout.

Summary
The streetlights come on as they head for home and the sun slips completely out of the sky. It’s been a silent walk. Satoru has his hands tucked into his pockets, keeping half an eye on Megumi who plods along beside him like a sentient thunder cloud. When the kid starts to slow for real, Satoru pauses.
“I can carry you the rest of the way.”
The scowl he gets could rival a Purple to the face. “No.”
“Oh come on, Megs. I said I was sorry.”
“To Ms. Kirishima. Not to me.”
Satoru pouts at him. “Fine. I’m sorry I was so late picking you up.”
“I’m not mad about that.”
“Well I can’t read your mind, so you’re gonna have to spell it out for me,” Satoru says. He’s not to the point of being annoyed yet, but Megumi is a master manipulator and can hold Satoru hostage with his refusal to just say what he needs or wants.
“You made me stay there with her, and made me have to call you on her phone.”
“Oh horrors.” Satoru crouches so he can look the little boy in the eyes. “I’m very sorry you had to have social interaction with someone you will see for months every single day.”
