In which Ajax falls into the Abyss for three years instead of months. It spits him back out differently, with a taint in his heart and more battle experience than any mortal since the archon war. That’s the thing about the Abyss; it takes something from you when you enter.

    And when you leave?

    It gives something back.

    Or:

Everything you need to know about entering, living in and escaping the Abyss. Also includes how to make yourself a wanted criminal in your home country, how to take care of your family while running from said country, how to snag yourself a foreign archon for a husband, and more.

Note: Do not attempt at home.

    Summary

Their tongues meet, part, meet again. For now, it’s enough to drown in Zhongli’s kisses, to lose himself in the sweet caresses of their lips, to tangle his tongue around Zhongli’s, to pull it into his mouth and suckle gently. Only when his chest burns with the need to breathe does he pull back, gasping.

A small smile curves Zhongli’s lips. “Do not starve yourself of air, baobei.”

“I need you more than I need to breathe.” Childe presses close for another kiss.

Childe professes he needs Zhongli more than air. Zhongli tests the veracity of that statement.

    Summary

Ratio constantly proclaims his love for Aventurine. However, Aventurine can't understand any of it because Ratio says it in Latin.

    “Aeons. You are so beautiful.”

    “Are you quite alright, Ratio?”

    “... Think nothing of it.”

    Summary

Childe like to drown his feeling. Literally.

After Osial, he frequently goes to lakes, usually Luhua Pool. Making sure no one is around before stepping into the water. He'll float a bit before taking a deep breath and let himself sink.

Before, back in the abyss, inside the water is where he feels most safe, apart from his Master's side.

But here in Liyue, there’s no Master.

It aches something terrible in Ajax's chest, because Liyue used to be warm. It almost feels like home.

    But no more.

So he returns to the water, where it feels more safe, much like a creature of the depth he truly is inside.

When he emerges, everything will be muffled either from lack of oxygen or the after-effect of the underwater silence. There'll be dizziness, but it is worth it for the few moments in which he becomes one with hydro. Free from thoughts of his mission, about Zhongli, about Liyue.

But of course, nothing lasts. Not for him. Ajax is never that lucky.

One of Zhongli's Adepti saw him.

[In which a series of misunderstandings and well-meaning friends hilariously push Zhongli and Childe to finally do their overly waited reunion.]

    Summary

A missing scene inspired by Childe's Character Story. Or, the one where he overthrows the territory of a nobleman.

He had hated his father then for gutting him like any other fish hauled up from the depths. How his anger swept through him, all-encompassing, to set alight the dry stacks of kindle made from shreds of his battered dignity. It wasn't enough punishment to have fallen between worlds—that he lacked a home to return to stung more than any bodily pain.

With time and distance though, he thinks he is beginning to understand.

People belong where they are born, but creatures belong where they are fed.

Written for Rogue Waltz, a Harbingers zine.
